Reframing Possibilities

Reframing Possibilities, 2024 (still). Single-channel video, color and sound, 15:00 min.

In a chance encounter with a worn letter written by the director’s single mother to his younger deceased brother, Ben finds himself shackled to the presence of reality as the “man of the family.”

This film explores how Ben and his collaborators embark on a journey to tell this story and conduct an examination to define identity, going back and forth between photography and filmmaking and questioning its limitations in presentation.

Utilizing a hybrid approach through a blend of archival family photos, poetic visuals, and conversation-based footage, he seeks an expression to bring consciousness to every lived moment, spur self-exploration, and reframe possibilities on the subject matter.

The film was executed in the frame of the ‘Documentary Filmmaking’ course under the guidance and advice of Professor and Director Trịnh Đình Lê Minh.

It resulted from a collaboration between Huỳnh Nguyễn Gia Khang (Ben), Hà Hoàng Khánh Linh (Ven), and Nguyễn Ngô Quốc Thái, as students from Fulbright University Vietnam.
